What is COP26?

COP is the annual UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties. From 31st October – 12th November, Glasgow will host the 26th COP event, hence the title COP26.

COP26 is being held under the presidency of the UK and will be hosted at the Scottish Events Campus. This venue boasts five events spaces, an auditorium capable of seating 3000 people and the impressive 14,3000 seat SSE Hydro – one of the world’s busiest concert and sporting arenas.

The COP26 summit will focus on:

  • reviewing global progress towards limiting climate change
  • reviewing the progress made regarding the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol.

Further information about the COP26 goals can be found here.

COP26 will be the first instance in which countries will submit updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement, which was created in 2015. These NDCs are detailed commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Further developments and enhanced commitments will be submitted every five years.
